US poker payment options

01/22/07

With Neteller gone, US players have been in a scramble to find a way to deposit and withdraw from their online poker accounts. Full Tilt Poker, Poker.com, and Absolute Poker have released similar emails hinting new US payment options for the near future.

Bodog has also stated that they have been thinking ahead and already have alternative payment options for players from the USA.

Dear Tilter,

Thank you for your continued play at Full Tilt Poker.

As you are probably aware, [...]

Tip 18: Don’t quit while you’re ahead!

01/16/07

You won a little in a poker game, so you better quit while you’re ahead, right? Despite popular belief, this is wrong. You should only quit a poker game when you have had enough, you’re tilting, or when you just feel that you don’t have an edge over anyone else.

Sure, sometimes you lose back the money you won during a session, and that sucks. But it works out the same if you quit while you’re ahead and then come back [...]

update: Mac Pokerstars screenshots - 02/14/07

While you’re waiting for the Mac version of pokerstars, keep in mind that there’s currently a few ways to run their PC software on your Mac, as long as you don’t mind using PC emulation software.

If you ask pokerstars, this is what they’ll suggest:

Among the options available to run Windows programs on a Macintosh are:

Virtual machines running as windows in MacOS:

Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac
Parallels Desktop ($79, with a free trial [...]

Mansion Poker won’t have a Mac version

01/12/07

Mansion poker is a top-notch site, but don’t expect them to release a Mac version of their software any time within the next year or so.

Here’s the response Mansion member services sent me:

We are not currently working on Mac compatible software, however it may be something we will introduce in the future.

They’re really missing out on a lot of players, by not having an option for Mac users, and they probably don’t realize it. Maybe when pokerstars releases their Mac [...]

iPhone Poker

01/9/07

The Apple iPhone comes bundled with a bunch of innovative features that essentially turns it into an iPocket-Mac. Poker sites will surely consider developing an iPhone compatible poker client, but it’s possible that some Mac poker rooms will already work with the iPhone.

At the very least you should be able to run a web browser poker site without additional installations or development. After all the iPhone uses safari, which is already compatible with a [...]

Tip 17: Online poker is not rigged

01/7/07

After being fed up with a run of bad luck, a pokerstars player sent an email complaining about online poker being rigged. He was sent a personal reply explaining logical reasons why online poker is not rigged.

I have taken the liberty of reviewing your previous correspondence with our staff, so I understand that we have already discussed this matter on numerous occasions. Normally we [...]

2007 Mac poker predictions

01/4/07

The last entry, wrapping up Mac poker for 2006, showed how active the year was in comparison to previous years. 2007 should be even more fun! This will be a big year for Mac poker players and possibly a defining year for online poker.

What to expect

PokerStars for Mac - PokerStars support said they have a team of programmers working on Mac poker software. They will probably release Mac software during the first half of 07. If the Mac [...]

Tip 16: Read Harrington on Hold’em

01/4/07

Everyone remembers ‘Action’ Dan Harrington, right? Although he’s not a household name, like Chris Moneymaker or Fossilman, he does have one of the best tournament reputations.

In 1995 Harrington won the WSOP main event, earning him $1,000,000.
In 2003 Harrington placed 3rd in the WSOP, which earned him $650,000
In 2004 Harrington placed 4th in the WSOP, which made him $1,500,000 richer

Because his success and advanced poker knowledge, there was a lot of demand for him to write a poker book [...]

Tip 15: Cash out your poker winnings

01/1/07

Nothing’s worse then losing your poker bankroll and having nothing to show for it. Of course this should never happen, but when you have your whole bankroll tied up in one online poker account, it’s not uncommon to have a slip up.

The solution to this problem is to get in the habit of regularly cashing out your online poker winnings. Every week take out either a fixed amount or a percentage of your profit. Don’t withdrawal an amount so large [...]
