WSOP Circuit Events Begin at Stop in Atlantic City

Atlantic City is the site of ten WSOP Circuit events, with the first event starting today. All of the ten events are No Limit Holdem events, and the buy-ins range from $200 to the $5000 buy-in for the Circuit Championship Event. The events will run from the start of today’s event to the end of the Circuit Championship event, which is scheduled to be held from March 13th to March 16th.

New Tax Law on Poker Winnings Implemented

A new tax law has gone into effect that requires casinos to report all tournament winnings of more than $5,000 to the IRS. This will make it easier for the IRS to collect the appropriate taxes from individuals who have won poker tournaments and will also put more responsibility on the shoulders of the casinos.

Van Nguyen Makes History as First Woman to Win WPT Event

Van Nguyen, the wife of famous poker player, Men “The Master” Nguyen, became the first woman to win a World Poker Tour event when she captured the top spot at the WPT Celebrity Invitational. Van Nguyen was the sole survivor of the 445 player field, which consisted of professional poker players and Hollywood celebrities who were invited to compete.

France Decree Blocked by European Commission

The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union’s government, has issued a detailed opinion which will temporarily block France from enforcing a provision in their 2007 Delinquency Act that is similar to the U.S Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement Act. Now that Harrah’s Entertainment has opened pre-registration for the 2008 WSOP the online poker sites have begun offering online satellites into the 2008 World Series of Poker, with satellites available for the Main Event as well as numerous other events occurring at this year’s WSOP.

Pre-Registration Commences for 2008 WSOP

Harrah’s Entertainment has announced that players can now pre-register for events at this year’s World Series of Poker. Pre-Registration may be done online at the official website of the WSOP, www.worldseriesofpoker.com, or by going to the cashier’s cage at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, the site of all the WSOP events.
