On February 22nd, a high stakes poker game was in progress at the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Wyoming, Delaware, a small town southwest of the state capital in Dover, when three armed men burst into the club, their faces disguised by pillowcases. The men then robbed the game’s participants of their cell phones, credit cards, and approximately $10,000 in cash. Two men were slightly injuries during the robbery.
One of the victims was 27-year old HyunJin Kim, a Delaware State Trooper. Kim was later arrested for being involved in the robbery, and was charged on 11 counts which included first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy. Kim had played in the game before and on the day of the robbery was seen in Camden, Delaware purchasing red pillowcases at a Walmart, the same pillowcases that the robbers used for disguises. The police conducted a search of Kim’s house and car, and the search turned up other evidence of Kim’s involvement in the robbery.
Kim has been placed on suspension and remains in custody with a bond of $240,000. The Delaware State Police issued a statement through their spokesman, Colonel Thomas MacLeish, who said “Mr. Kim is not indicative of the caliber of troopers we have serving the citizens of the state. Mr. Kim is an aberration to the men and women of this division.”
The three other men involved in the robbery are still at large.
