Poker Stars has founded the Latin America Poker Tour, a poker tour which will feature stops all across Central and South America. The LAPT will begin its inaugural run with three tournaments, one in Brazil, one in Costa Rica, and one in Uruguay. LAPT Rio de Janeiro will take place from May 3rd-May 5th, LAPT San Jose will take place from May 22nd-May 24th, and LAPT Punta del Este will take place from August 7th-August 9th. Each event is expected to draw in no less than 250 players, with prize pools of at least $600,000.
Glenn Cadematori is in charge of the LAPT and when speaking about its formation said, “Poker is exploding in Latin America and the game is more than ready for its own major poker tour.” He goes on to say how there are thousands of players in Central and South America who will greatly enjoy the opportunity to play in the major events that will form the LAPT.
The tournament director for the LAPT will be Mike Ward, who has been a director at the Foxwoods Resort Casino and has been the tournament director for the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure. His experience and previous ties with Poker Stars made him the obvious choice for the position of tournament director.
Poker Stars will have many of their pros competing in the LAPT, including some of their Latin American players, the most notable of whom is Humberto Brenes, the Costa Rican native whose flamboyant charisma makes him a fan favorite at the poker tables.
The LAPT will provide even more exciting poker action for professionals and amateurs alike to indulge in.
