Today marks the beginning of the 2008 World Championship of Online Poker, which is hosted at Poker Stars, with the first event being the $215 No Limit Holdem 6-max, which has a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. Also taking place today will be Event #2, $215 Pot Limit Five Card Draw with a guaranteed prize pool of 100,000.
The 2008 WCOOP will consist of 33 events covering all the different varieties of poker and will run from today thru the end of the Main Event, which is expected to conclude sometime on September 22nd, giving the WCOOP seventeen days with which to enthrall the online poker community. More than $30 million is guaranteed to be won over the course of the WCOOP, $10 million of which will be awarded in the $5,200 No Limit Holdem Main Event.
The largest buy-in events will take place on Sunday September 7th and Sunday September 14th, as the aptly named $10,300 High Roller No Limit Holdem and the $25,500 High Roller Heads-Up No Limit Holdem events will take place, respectively. The penultimate event will also have a high buy-in, as it will be the $10,300 HORSE event with a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.
