The LAPT Nuevo Vallarta event had seen play stopped on Friday and the event officially cancelled on Saturday, but now Poker Stars has devised a plan to finish the tournament and award a title to the winner. Poker Stars will host a freeroll for the 89 players that were still competing when play was stopped, and this freeroll will run until only nine players remain. These nine players will then be flown down to the next LAPT event in Vina del Mar, Chile, where they will compete for the title at a televised final table.
The prize pool from the tournament has already been divided amongst the 89 remaining players, but Poker Stars is adding $50,000 to the prize pool for the players at the final table.
Poker Stars is still polling the remaining players to see how their schedules align so that they can set a date and time for the freeroll. Among the 89 remaining players were Poker Stars players Greg Raymer and Victor Ramdin, who were both holding onto healthy amounts of chips when play was stopped.
Sarne Lightman, LAPT director of marketing, said in his statement, “We know that many of our remaining players really wanted the opportunity to finish this tournament and earn their shot at an LAPT title. Although the tournament was suspended and the prize money distributed, PokerStars still wants to offer its players this extra opportunity. PokerStars will also be adding $50,000 in prize money to the final table.â€
After seeing play stopped in Mexico, the LAPT Neuvo Vallarta event will conclude in Chile with a champion.
