It happened just two months ago when an up-and-coming poker player died from a dangerous illness that haunts people all over the world. The disease that I am referring to is Leukemia which is any of various acute or chronic neoplastic diseases of the bone marrow in which unrestrained proliferation of white blood cells occurs, usually accompanied by anemia, impaired blood clotting, and enlargement of the lymph nodes, liver, and spleen. Well the poker player that lost her fight with this horrible disease was 2007 World Series of Poker Ladies Event final table participant Mindy Trinidad who died on October 9, 2008.
Well there is one poker professional who is trying to do his part in fighting against this horrible disease and his name is Erick Lindgren. On December 12th Erick Lindgren will be teaming up with the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas to help put on a charity poker tournament which will honor the memory of Mindy Trinidad. The tournament will be open to everyone and the cost of entry will be $230. It has already attracted a number of other professionals that have said they will play in the tournament such as Phil Hellmuth, Lee Watkinson, Jennifer Harmon and 2006 World Series of Poker Champion Jamie Gold.
Some of the prizes that are going to be offered to players are a wide variety of bounty prizes and also Curtis & Co. will be awarding the top three finishers of the tournament a luxurious watch. The top prize however is a paid entry in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event which was donated by Erick Lindgren in hopes to attract more players to play in the tournament. Another prize available to only the women will be a very nice pearl necklace which will be awarded to the last remaining female player.
